Amber Grid invests another €2 million in gas infrastructure modernization in three municipalities

Lithuania’s natural gas transmission system operator, AB Amber Grid, continues the consistent implementation of its 2035 strategy—to modernize the country’s gas transmission infrastructure. The company has signed a €2.05 million contract with the energy contracting company UAB Dujotiekio statyba.

Under the contract, technologically outdated gas shut-off devices in the municipalities of Klaipėda District, Ukmergė District, and Pakruojis District will be reconstructed. These devices will be connected to the SCADA remote operational control system. The project will be implemented over 19 months.

“These projects reflect our strategic approach—not only maintaining the reliability of the gas transmission system today but also investing in innovation and preparing for future challenges. The modernized system will increase the overall reliability and resilience of the gas transmission network, reduce operational costs, and improve management efficiency,” said Tomas Urmanavičius, Director of Organizational Development at AB Amber Grid.

Once the project is completed, gas flows will be controlled remotely via the SCADA system. This will enable efficient execution of planned work and a rapid response to unforeseen situations, eliminating the need for employees to physically travel to the equipment sites. The modernized system will reduce environmental and safety risks, as sections of the pipeline can be quickly and precisely shut off in critical situations.

This marks the second major step this year—in July, Amber Grid signed a €3.2 million contract for similar work being carried out in the municipalities of Elektrėnai, Kaišiadorys, Šakiai, Alytus, Šalčininkai, and Kaunas Districts.
