On June 7 AB Amber Grid has launched an international tender to carry out the construction works of the Gas Interconnection Poland-Lithuania (GIPL) in the territory of the Republic of Lithuania. This tender has competitive procedure with negotiations.
The Gas Interconnection Poland-Lithuania (GIPL) project is a part of the European Union’s project of common-interest (PCI), which is implemented by AB Amber Grid together with the Polish transmission system operators GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.
‘This is a regional project of great importance. When completed gas transmission systems of the Baltic States will be integrated into the European transmission network, security of gas supply in the region will become even higher. The project will offer the users of Baltic States and Finland a bigger choice of natural gas supply sources and prices, also opening new perspectives for natural gas market participants’ Saulius Bilys, CEO of AB Amber Grid, said.
The winning tenderer will be responsible for the construction of gas transmission pipeline and gas metering station. The gas transmission pipeline measuring 165 km in length and 700 mm in width will be laid between Jauniūnai compressor station in Širvintos district and the Lithuania-Poland border in Lazdijai District.
Applications for participation in the procurement for performing construction works must be submitted until August 8 10 AM (Vilnius time). Public tender for acquisition of steel pipes will be launched shortly after.
2019 Q2 is provisioned as a start of pipeline construction works in the territory of Lithuania, after international tender is over.
GIPL pipeline is planned to be completed and put into operation in December 2021.
The approximate projected length of the pipeline is around 500 km, while 165 km running in the territory of Lithuania.
When the pipeline is constructed, new capacities will be created allowing to transport gas up to 27 TWh a year to Baltic States and up to 22 TWh a year to Poland, making the gas market of Baltic States a part of common EU gas market.
