At the site of the reconstruction of a gas pipeline preparation for the construction of the Rail Baltica

In the Pasvalys region, close to the Latvian border, unusual works are carried out. The section of the Vilnius-Panevėžys-Riga pipeline running here is replaced by an old pipeline with corrosion defects. A total of 14 kilometers of pipeline will be overlaid. During the last days of summer, exceptional work was carried out on the construction site in connection with the planned construction of a new railroad at the site.

The Rail Baltica section will be constructed above the pipeline, so it will be necessary to install the new pipe in a tray that will be filled with special anti-corrosion material. The tray will be installed at a depth of almost 9 meters. A trench reinforced with special metal structures. Such mounting technology is unique in the infrastructure we manage. As the pipeline is usually laid at a depth of one to two meters, this particular section requires more careful work and investment by contractors.

The total value of the project, which is being implemented by Amber Grid, is more than EUR 8 million. The works are being carried out by the contractor MT Group. More than 70% of the project has been implemented so far, with work expected to be completed by the end of this year. 50% of the project is funded by EU.
